Threatening Employee Termination

Professional on-site protection when a firing, layoff, or walkout may turn hostile.

Serving employers in Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Kenosha and Appleton, Wisconsin, and Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, South Bend and Carmel, Indiana.

Terminating someone is an HR decision. Keeping everyone safe while it happens is a security decision.

Risk goes up when the person has made threats, has access to weapons or critical systems, is being removed for violence or theft, or when a layoff or strike already has the workplace on edge.

We support employers, HR, and legal counsel during:

  • Involuntary terminations (fired, for cause, or long-term removal)
  • Layoffs and reduction-in-force days
  • Resignations or walkouts after a confrontation
  • High-profile or executive terminations
  • Union, picket, or labor-dispute settings around a termination

What we do on-site:

  • Advance walkthrough with HR and facilities (exits, parking, badge shutdown, what “done” looks like)
  • Low-profile presence in or just outside the meeting room
  • Escort from the meeting to the desk, locker, vehicle, or property line
  • Collection of keys, badges, devices, and access items per your checklist
  • Crowd and hallway control so other staff are not pulled into the scene
  • Parking-lot and lobby overwatch after the person leaves
  • Coordination with your team if police should be called
  • After-action notes for your file (what happened, times, who was present)

Plant, Warehouse and Shift-Change Terminations

Terminations at manufacturing plants and distribution centers carry risks an office firing doesn’t: shift changes with hundreds of people in the lot, badge access at multiple doors, forklifts and tools on the floor, and coworkers who may side with the person leaving. We time the meeting around shift change, post officers at the gate and employee lot, confirm badge and gate access is shut off, and stay until the person is off the property. For a layoff or reduction in force, we can staff several entrances at once.

Armed or unarmed, uniformed or plainclothes — we match the tone of your workplace. For most office terminations, plainclothes is the right call.

How it works

  1. Call or submit the form — You do not need to put the employee’s name in writing on first contact. Tell us date, location, headcount in the meeting, and why you think it may go badly.
  2. Short plan — We confirm how many officers, armed vs unarmed, where they stand, and the exit path.
  3. Day of — Officers arrive early, meet your lead, and stay until the person is off property and the floor is calm.
  4. Follow-up — Optional extra coverage that afternoon or the next morning if you expect them to return.

Can a security guard remove a terminated employee?

A security officer can escort a terminated employee from the meeting to their desk, vehicle and property line, keep the peace, and make it clear the visit is over. Guards are not police. In general they may only use the force state law allows, such as self-defense or protecting others, so if a person refuses to leave or turns violent, officers step back, document what happened and call police. AESS plans each termination with HR in advance so the exit stays quiet and discreet. This is general information, not legal advice; check with your counsel about your state’s rules.

FAQs

How far ahead do we need to book termination security?

Call as soon as the date is set. We can often staff a same-week termination; tell us the date, site, headcount in the meeting and why you’re concerned.

Can you cover a layoff at a warehouse or plant with several entrances?

Yes. We plan posts for each entrance, the employee lot and the meeting room, and time coverage around shift change.
